Funding for academic prospective research on the urban challenges facing the Brussels-Capital Region today
Do you have an academic research project that addresses societal issues affecting the Brussels-Capital Region? Would you like to help the Brussels Region tackle these challenges by contributing to political debate and informing public policy? Can your project enhance the understanding of Brussels’ urban complexity through the creation of new, empirically and scientifically grounded knowledge? Are you interested in transdisciplinary research that incorporates participatory methods and explores alternatives to current systems? Discover how to obtain funding to contribute to the development of the Brussels Region.
Are you eligible?
- You are a researcher in human sciences or exact sciences and have at least a Master’s degree.
- You are part of a team of several multidisciplinary researchers.
- Your supervisor is a professor, an accredited researcher or the research director of a research institution.
- Your project
- contributes to new knowledge for the Brussels-Capital Region;
- anchors the research in an approach focused on possibilities and future studies;
- pays sufficient attention to the regional valorization of the research.
- The research institution must have fulfilled its obligations under previous aid granted by the Region.

The procedure in 2 steps
- Submit your full research project proposal using the form below (see in the toolbox).
- If your project is admissible, it will be evaluated by a jury composed of academic experts, specialists of prospective or sociology of the possible and of the future, and representatives of Innoviris.

The projects must be submitted by the relevant academic authorities. Contact your Tech Transfer Office (or the R&D Department) for further information.
The funding covers projects of maximums 3 years (+3 months of valorization).
