When it comes to health, we are not all equal. Certain groups of people are exposed to greater risks to their well-being, health or quality of life because of their physical or mental condition. Innoviris Joint R&D Project funding programme around the strategic innovation area 'Health' stimulates medical innovation and accelerates the development of innovative tools for people in vulnerable health situations. One of the Region's strengths is its diversified healthcare ecosystem. Brussels has a large number of research centres, universities and colleges, public and private incubators, a high concentration of hospitals, including three university hospitals, and a high level of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Medical innovation to improve the quality of life of vulnerable people

The selected projects funded by Innoviris are aimed at developing innovative solutions to improve the health, quality of life and well-being of people in vulnerable situations.

Patients considered vulnerable under this call are pregnant women, children from the prenatal phase to early childhood, elderly and end-of-life people, people with mental health problems, people with disabilities and people with chronic diseases or cancer.

Based on submitted funding applications, five projects were selected for which 15 partners from research and industry will work together. Innoviris awarded funding of €6.15 million, approved by the Brussels government.
