With the seven projects selected under the Joint R&D programme, 14 partners will deploy their technology for sustainable development in various sectors such as logistics, construction, software and manufacturing.
Brussels is one of the 100 European cities participating in Horizon Europe's 'smart and carbon neutral cities' mission, with a target of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 47% by 2030 (compared to 2005). In line with the ambitions of the European Green Deal, Innoviris actively promotes and funds research and innovation projects aimed at sustainable solutions in the context of the Shifting Economy.
On the proposal of Secretary of State for Economic Transition and Scientific Research Barbara Trachte, the government of the Brussels-Capital Region has approved support worth €4.75 million for 7 R&D projects in the framework of the Joint R&D programme initiated by Innoviris on the theme "Towards Zero Carbon Energy". On average, every euro invested by Innoviris is matched by a euro invested by industry.
Collaboration between companies is a catalyst for innovation
The annual Joint R&D programme aims to encourage and support collaborative projects that pool the research expertise available in Brussels and the wealth and creativity of the capital's businesses.
The advantages for companies are clear: they will be able to acquire the knowledge they lack and integrate the latest technological advances into their products and services. Academic researchers, for their part, will be able to advance and validate their research work by confronting it with real cases of practical use.
The 7 selected projects, involving 14 partners in total, cover various sectors: logistics, construction, software and production. They all put technology at the service of sustainable development. The teams will work on carbon-neutral deliveries, the reuse of car batteries, the use of green hydrogen and the potential for wind power development in Brussels. A brief overview:
